WATERPROOF
BANDAGE KIT
Packaging Design
Bandages allow us to pursue our daily activities without the worry of dirt or items touching our cuts. Unfortunately water tends to cut the life of our bandages short!
The goal of this project was to design packaging for a waterproof bandage kit that allowed people to purchase all the “dry” waterproof first-aid products (bandages, gauze, tape) they might need in one kit, rather than getting these supplies separately.
So, the journey for this packaging design started with brainstorming different ways water could be alluded to through packaging. For example, whether water should be represented through waves, water streaks, droplets, or splashes.
Once the idea of waves was chosen it was time to decide what process could be used to make the waves stand out. Since the idea was to bring either a more “tactile“ or visually striking experience to the packaging, there were several methods that could be considered: Spot UV, physical “rain drops,” and holographic foil were the methods that came to mind. After lots of deliberations foil seemed to be the most interesting approach towards this packaging.
With that decided it was time to actually find a printer who would do foil or a version of foil. Where was this going to be foil printed, since it wasn't going to be mass produced? This was where the first challenge arose. When a printer who actually worked with foil was found it was discovered the printing cost was going to be insane. This resulted in needing to find an alternative place or alternative packaging all together. Luckily a smaller print shop was found that was more “cost effective” and were able to do what is known as digital foil printing.
The rest of the packaging such as the contents inside were kept minimal
